Since 1991, the UCS has been an essential service and benefit to our community. Our day shelter has been a reliable foundation for thousands of people over the years and it continues to make a life-changing difference today. The restrooms and showers help make this possible. All people deserve a clean and caring place to address their basic needs as they overcome challenges, build relationships, and pursue a healthier and hope-filled life. Will you help?
The day shelter restroom and shower improvement project will cost approximately $126,500 and we are seeking to raise $40,000 as part of a capital campaign. We will also seek discounts, deals, and in-kind donations with contractors and materials suppliers. We are asking our individual, corporate, and faith community partners, as a sign of your commitment to these essential services and the people we serve to raise $40,000 (or more) for this project. We thank the Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh County and the City of Evansville Endowment Fund for their combined $65,000 of support toward this project.
Won’t you help us reach our goal so people can feel clean, be healthy, and live with dignity?
Giving Tuesday raised $4,686! Awesome! We are very close to surpassing Clean & Caring Capital Campaign goal!
These desperately needed improvements (see layout right) will help UCS provide a higher quality of care in a more compassionate and sustainable way. Surpassing the campaign goal will allow us to provide a greater match to the other funding sources we are pursuing.
Surpassing our campaign and total project funding goals will allow us to increase the quality of equipment/materials (fixture upgrade!) we are able to use to bolster durability and safety. It will also help us improve the donation intake and processing area in the basement below the restrooms (bonus improvement) which has suffered a lot of water damage over the years while the contractors are already on site.
These are a few visual examples of what the new, more appropriate, durable, sustainable, and safer units we will install – they may be ceramic or stainless steel – as well as an example of an epoxy style non-tile, no-slip floor. With these improvements, we be better able to be the crisis needs of people today and tomorrow!
